Screw Mensa! We did smart good.
For those of you who felt your brain is above knowing the Skipper’s real name is Jonas Grumby, opting not to attend our Team Trivia Night, here is a brief recap: Team Martindale, Ludden & Rayburn, also known as Nonbox, took first place. What they lack in clever team naming abilities they make up for in useless knowledge. Boelter + Lincoln took second, followed by Purple Onion and The Factoids (bvk #2)-side note: “Purple Onion & The Factoids” would be a good band name. Truth be told, it was a three-way tie or 2nd so easy on the bragging rights B+L, you just happened to guess better at your final score. For those who didn’t attend, prior to the start of the event, every team had to write down what they thought their total score out of 64 questions would be. Incidentally, just in case you needed further proof of the egos in this business, every team guessed way higher than they actually scored.
Here’s some trivia for you: nobody in attendance knew how to spell supersede. Proofreaders, your jobs are safe.
What else did we learn? Well, as people drink more, they get dumber. The average score for round eight was 3.7, and that was in the category of advertising, people! For shame! Two teams seem to think my mom was the Bounty pitch woman, writing “Mrs. Ban” as their answers. My mom also received credit as catching Brett Favre’s first touchdown pass. A team had written “Your Mama” in what can only be described as angry penmanship.
All and all, it was a fun night, one worth repeating in the near future. Zizzo, you’ll have at least three months to prepare-and I’m not talking about new posters.
I would like to thank Heidi for her hard work in organizing the event, Lakefront Brewery, Purple Onion, and GMR Marketing for donating prizes, and fine folks at Club Garibaldi. One last shout out to former Adworker Director Melanie Roach for suggesting this event to the board. Could your self-proclaimed genius status be showing signs of validity? Doubtful.
Also, we will be changing categories for next time. Apparently spell-check has stripped us of our ability to sound-out words and use the correct corresponding letters to make that sound. Needless to say, the “Spelling Bee” round was voted as the least favorite, especially among art directors. One suggestion for replacement was “name that font”. My suggestion is to be smarter, Eddie. But yes, we will mix it up for the next evening of cerebral combat.
Thanks again.
Joe

Oops, I forgot to thank Tanner-Monagle for lending us the mic and amp for the event. Thank you, John and Bob, next time I expect to see a team representation!
These guys rock!
